Tubes, Rods & Components
CST has an extensive range of round, tapered and foil shape mandrels for production of custom filament wound carbon fiber tubing from 10mm to 800mm diameter with any wall thickness.
Accuracy on inside diameter (ID) is typically to ±0.15mm, while the outside diameter is to ±0.3mm. We do have the ability to machine our finished tubes and achieve greater OD tolerance, typically to 50 microns. If you require exact sizing or specific fibre orientations, please contact us.
If you require pultrusions or carbon fiber tubing outside our standard range, we can machine custom tooling for large orders and supply products to your specifications. These can be produced in carbon fibre, aramid, basalt, PBO or fibreglass. Tubes can also be supplied with a protective 2 pack, clear polyurethane finish at an additional cost. Please contact us to discuss your options.
CST can also manufacture composite components out of various materials. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
CST carbon fibre
CST uses different grades of carbon fibre – each grade offering unique physical properties. See the table below for more information.
|Fibre type||Fibre modulus||Composite modulus||Elongation (fibre only)
||Tensile strength(fibre only)|
|Standard modulus||240 GPa||100 Gpa||2.2 %||5000 MPa|
|Intermediate modulus||280 Gpa||117 Gpa||1.9 %||5660 Mpa|
|High modulus||380 Gpa||159 Gpa||1.2 %||4560 Mpa|
|Ultra high modulus||550 Gpa||231 Gpa||0.7 %||3970 Mpa|
|Ultra ultra high modulus||660 Gpa||277 Gpa||0.4 %||2450 Mpa|
CST filament wound carbon fibre tubing calculator
Use the calculator below to view the physical properties of our tubing. Please note that this calculator only provides estimated nominal values. Additionally, the graphs have been simplified; please talk to our engineers to discuss actual values for your application. Custom tooling may be necessary to manufacture certain tubes created with the calculator. For more information regarding our standard tube range, including pricing, please see our online store. You can also contact us for more information.
Note: We typically refer to our tubes in inside diameter measurements as they have been manufactured over a male mandrel. For example 20mm tube, is 20mm ID with a given wall thickness.
