CST Composites’ new High Modulus spar technology is proving its performance edge on the race track. Simon Payne has just won the UK Moth nationals using CST’s new 35mm series high modulus mast, beating 33 other foiling Moths in a very competitive regatta. Marcus Hamilton finished second by one point in the recent Contender European Championships held in Italy. Marcus was using CST’s new 40mm series High Modulus mast. CST’s extensive global export initiatives were recognised at this years Manufacturers Monthly Endeavour Awards where they were listed as ‘Highly Commended 2008 Global Integrator of the year’. In addition CST also reached the finals for the ‘Exporter of the year’ award.
As part of the new range of High Modulus carbon masts CST has just launched a brand new High Modulus carbon Moth mast. The one piece tapered mast is just 40mm outside diameter compared with 50mm for the previous version. Many competitor masts are still 55mm OD making the new mast 15mm smaller. This will offer significantly reduced windage through smaller cross-section and better leading edge profile. Weighing just 2kg with fittings the new mast is also lighter than its predecessor. More
CST are re-writing the rules for carbon spars – Carbon 2.0 – the latest generation of carbon spars are here! By using High Modulus carbon fibre CST’s new spar sections are smaller in diameter, lighter and stiffer (depending on class requirements). Currently our new High Modulus range includes the 18′ skiff, Moth and International 14. The next classes to be converted will be the Contender and Flying Dutchman with more to follow! The first 191 x 101mm elliptical mast section was filament wound at the end of march 08 and will be assembled and rigged by Allyacht Spars ready to be fitted to a Spirited 380 catamaran. The mast will be supplied in two sections measuring 7m and 9m respectively. The new section is part of CST’s expanding elliptical mast series and can be seen on the Spirited 380 stand at the Sanctuary Cove Boat show May 22nd – 25th. Picture.
CST is pleased to announce that they will be exclusively supplying filament wound carbon fibre tiller extensions to all Australia’s selected sailors for the 2008 Olympics in Quindango, China. CST’s extensions have been used by many Olympic sailors in the 49er class and are well renowned for their performance and durability. With this latest agreement all of Australia’s hopeful’s will be holding a CST extension in their hand as they pursue Gold at the 2008 Olympic games.
Over the last couple of months CST has been developing their current filament winding machines and through this development, have successfully wound a carbon fibre furling boom for a new 58 metre super yacht .
The new furling boom which CST supplied is over 17metres long and has a diametre of 250mm, with this increased capacity CST can now cater for almost all you large tube needs.
Congratulations to Glenn Ashby for winning the 2007 A-Class World Championships. Glenn’s boat has the full CST carbon kit, inc beams, x-bar, boom and tiller extensions.
